Brother's fuser units are notorious for wearing out the film sleeve faster than the roller. Common failures: heat streaks on prints, wrinkles, or the film tearing after 20k pages. The culprit is almost always the base film – cheap PET film can't handle the 180–200°C fusing temperature without deforming. You need polyimide film with a PTFE outer layer, and it must be thick enough (usually 25–50 microns) to resist creasing.

When you're inspecting a compatible sleeve, ask for the material data sheet. If the supplier can't tell you the base film and coating thickness, walk away. Also check the seam – a bad seam causes periodic marks on the drum. A quality sleeve has a seamless or laser-welded seam that's nearly invisible to the naked eye.

Roller Compatibility: The Forgotten Variable
